Corolla: The Game is a Toyota-licensed racing advergame based on the line of the company's best selling car of the 1980s. It was developed and published by Namco exclusively for Japanese arcades.

Gameplay

[edit]

The game is an OutRun-style racing game featuring two Corolla models, each with different cornering characteristics, although top speeds are same. The available models include:

  • Corolla FX 1600 GT (AE82)
  • Corolla Levin GT-APEX (AE86)

The player is in control of a driver in either of these cars, racing against the clock and a computer-controlled opponent in other one in a race across Japan. For example, if a player controls an AE86, the rival will challenge with an AE82. The race ends if timer runs out or either player wins a race. Two-player mode is also available.

Players can drive up to 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph) while navigating a tricky road course. Players must watch out for treacherous turns, nasty traffic flow, and the ever-present time limit.

Stage Order

[edit]

The courses are raced straightforward in 12 stages from north-east (Hokkaido) to south-west (Kyushu).

Some of the stages are not accurately portrayed to their real life counterparts. For example: Sapporo is nothing more than a field covered in snow and Yokohama looks like the Bayshore Route.
